Bivouac Training Award

It's getting dark and it's starting to rain. You've been separated from your group and you're hopelessly lost. It looks like you're going to have to spend the night in the open. With only the equipment in your rucksack and the countryside around you, would you know how to survive?

The Bivouac Training Award was introduced in 2004 and aims to give Scouts and Explorer Scouts the knowledge that will help them in such a scenario. The BIVOUAC TRAINING AWARD is unique to Birmingham Scouting and has been designed to give candidates the high level of skills that are needed to pass the Bivouac Award and Survival Skills Badge.

You will receive training in the following subjects; shelter building, fire lighting, first aid, water collection and purification, collection of edible plants and different ways of cooking. Training will be given in patrol sized groups. All who apply to take part, must understand that after having received training on how to make a shelter, they will then be expected to sleep in it.

A list of food will also be sent to you when you apply. This list will contain un-processed food that would be found in the United Kingdom and that would be readily available to you. No processed food is allowed.

Applications for the 2012 BIVOUAC TRAINING AWARD will go live on 1st February 2012 and can be downloaded from www.birminghamscouts.org.uk/bivouac
