As we come to the end of 2016 and hopefully you have the opportunity to spend time celebrating the festive season with family and friends, can I just take a few moments to reflect on a superb year of Scouting in Birmingham.

We’ve seen some fabulous events throughout the year, whether they be within your Groups, Districts or the County and it’s been great to see our youngsters having so many opportunities to put the ‘OUT’ in ScOUTing.  It never ceases to amaze me how organised, creative (and at times slightly mad!) our leaders throughout Birmingham are and I’d just like, on behalf of all of our young people involved in Scouting, to say a huge ‘Thank You’ to all of our leaders and supporters for the time you put into planning, organising and running these great activities. Without your enthusiasm and efforts we cannot put on such a great programme, and our programme is really what Scouting is all about, it helps us engage with our young people, who in turn will tell their friends and family what a great time they are having, learning new skills and challenging themselves.

As volunteers we often don’t take the time to reflect on how good our activities are as we move swiftly onto the next week or the next event, so thank you for the time you give up week after week to make Scouting in Birmingham the best it can be.

I do hope you’ll be able to take the time to recharge your batteries, relax with your loved ones and return in 2017 refreshed for another great Scouting year….Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
