What is the Duke of Edinburgh Award?
The DofE is a nationally renowned youth training scheme, recognised by many educational establishments and industries, who value its worth and what it says about the person who achieves it . The scheme, which caters for the 14 – 25yr age range, perfectly matches the age range of the Scout Associations Explorer and Network sections.
There are three award levels – Bronze , Silver and Gold. At each level there are four activities required – Volunteering, Skill, Physical and Expedition. However at Gold there is a fifth section which is a Residential Project. In each section there is a very wide range of activities that you can choose from or you can find something similar which already interest you. There are no tests, the scheme is about having a go, showing perseverance and being able to show an improvement over time.

Who is it for?
The scheme is open to anyone in the age range of 14 to 25 years. There are no prior qualifications or abilities
required although we are required to be members of the Scout Association.
Does the DofE not clash with the Scout Association Awards:
On the contrary, it compliments it. The DofE, if worked correctly can be used to enhance your normal Explorer or Network meetings and offer some other experiences to your programs. By taking part in and completing a particular level of the DofE Award Scheme, you will have already completed the bulk of the Chief Scout or Queen Scout Award. Why get only one award when you can two for the same work and effort?
