Sutton Coldfield West District
We are a lively and enthusiastic Scouting District made up of nine different groups, one District Explorer Scout Unit, a newly formed Network and a couple of very sociable District Scout Active Support Groups. We cater for everyone from 6 years old.
Our District skirts the beautiful Sutton Park where in 1957, the 50th anniversary of Scouting was celebrated when the 9th World Scout Jamboree was held there, with participants from all over the world. The event is commemorated by a short stone pillar in the centre of the park known as Jamboree Stone, often a focal point for local Scouting activities. One of our Groups is a Sea Scout Group based in Sutton Park close to the lake so able to offer lots of water based activities.
We have a full and active programme both at Group level and at District Level, with both traditional and modern events, and we are always planning new challenges.
We are keen supporters and participants of the Sutton Gang Show, a bi–annual event.
We are the only District in Birmingham to have a Scout band, although attached to a Group it is open to any member of Scouting, and they are available to perform at non–scouting events as well as supporting Scout Events. If you are interested in joining Scouting in our District, please get in touch and I'll do my best to get you settled in with
Yours in Scouting
Janet Sutton – District Commissioner
