In nearly a century, the section has constantly evolved and adapted its programme and methods to meet the changing needs of each generation of young people, and these days admits girls as well as boys.
What is Cub Scouting?
There are loads of fun things that you can do as a Cub Scout. You will get a chance to try lots of different activities like swimming, music, exploring, computing and collecting. If you do them properly you will get a badge which you can wear on your uniform. Cub Scouts also get to go on trips and days out, to places like the zoo, theme parks or a farm. Sometimes you will be able to go camping with the rest of your Pack. This will mean you sleeping in a tent and doing loads of outdoor activities.
What is the age range for Cub Scouts?
The core age range for the Cub Scout Section is from 8 to 10½ and the Cub Scout Section programme is designed to be delivered to this age group.

There are a whole range of interesting and exciting activities and programmes that are running in the Cub Packs, Groups, Districts and County. Here are some examples of activities that are available to Cub Scouts in the County:

Local District competitions / events are run to determine who or which teams represent the District at a County Level. Please contact your District’s ADC(Cubs) or District Cub Scout Leader for more details. In addition to the above there are Adventurous Activities such as Kayaking/Canoeing, Hill Walking and Climbing/Abseiling. All of our activities are based on the principle that we need to provide activities that develop young people and offer excitement but not danger, adventure but not hazard!
It is the role of the Assistant District Commissioner for Cubs (ADC Cubs), County Cub Scout Leaders and Assistant County Commissioner for Cubs (ACC Cubs) as a team to support the Districts in the delivery of premium activities and programmes within the County and promote Scouting to the community. Our aim is to encourage participation in and provide a balance of activities and ensure the Cubs in Birmingham County get the best deal of experiences and opportunities that we can provide.

We also regularly celebrate the successes of Cubs in achieving their Silver Chief Scout award – the highest award young people can gain in the Cub Section.
A County ceremony is arranged to present certificates to Cubs who have achieved the award and to show how proud of them we are for doing their best.
