Welcome!

Hello, I’m Darren Lennon, and I have the privilege of serving as the County Lead Volunteer for Birmingham Scouts.

Scouting has been a part of my life for over 33 years. My journey began as a Beaver Scout here in Birmingham, where I discovered the adventure, friendships and opportunities that Scouting provides. As my family moved around England, I continued my Scouting journey, experiencing different groups and communities, each helping to shape the volunteer and leader I am today.

Eventually, I settled in Chase Terrace, where I became a Beaver Leader and joined the 1st Chase Terrace Scout Band. In 2016, I was appointed Group Scout Leader (now Group Lead Volunteer) at 1st Chase Terrace Scout Group. Alongside this, I became involved in supporting volunteers across the County as a County Trainer and later a County Training Adviser, helping adults develop the skills and confidence to deliver amazing experiences for young people.

I was then honoured to serve as District Commissioner (now District Lead Volunteer) for Cannock Chase District, a role I held for eight years. During that time, I worked with an incredible team of volunteers to support growth, strengthen governance, celebrate achievements and ensure more young people could enjoy the adventure of Scouting.

Today, I am incredibly proud to have returned to where my Scouting journey first began, serving as County Lead Volunteer for Birmingham Scouts.

My Vision

Birmingham Scouts is full of passionate, dedicated volunteers who make an extraordinary difference every single week. My role is to support those volunteers, help remove barriers, celebrate success and ensure every young person has the opportunity to enjoy safe, inclusive and exciting Scouting.

Our new strategy, A Place to Belong, perfectly reflects what I want every volunteer and young person to experience across Birmingham. Together, we will continue to build a County where everyone feels welcome, valued and able to thrive.

Whether you’re a new volunteer, a young person taking your first steps in Scouting, or someone who’s been involved for decades, I want Birmingham Scouts to be a place where you truly belong.

Beyond Scouting

Professionally, I began my career working in social care before moving into education. I currently work as an Executive Headteacher and Director of School Flourishing, leading schools and supporting educational improvement alongside my Scouting responsibilities.

Outside of work and Scouting, you’ll usually find me spending time with family and friends, enjoying holidays, or singing at a karaoke night!

One of the best parts of being County Lead Volunteer is visiting our Scout Groups, Sections and events across Birmingham. I love seeing Scouting in action, meeting our amazing volunteers and celebrating the fantastic achievements of our young people.
