Job Description: Comms Team Member

Role Title: Comms Team Member
Reporting to: County Lead Volunteer
Team: Birmingham Scout County – Digital & Comms Team

Role Purpose

The Comms Team Member is a volunteer role within the Birmingham County Scouts Communications Team. This role is perfect for someone who is passionate about storytelling, social media, and keeping people informed. You will play a key part in ensuring that our volunteers and the wider Scouting community stay connected, engaged, and up to date with the latest news, events, and opportunities across the County.

Whether you have experience in communications or are just keen to develop new skills, we’d love to have you on board!

Key Tasks

We are looking for a team of volunteers that can support us to:

Social Media & Online Presence

📌 Creating and posting engaging content on our public Facebook page to showcase Scouting activities across Birmingham.
📌 Helping to develop our social media presence on platforms such as Instagram and TikTok to reach a wider audience.
📌 Ensuring content is engaging, informative, and aligned with Scouting values.

Email & Internal Communications

📌 Creating and sending emails to volunteers across the County, keeping them informed about:
- Upcoming events
- Changes in policies and guidelines
- Key updates from Birmingham County Scouts
📌 Supporting with newsletters and internal updates to ensure volunteers are always in the loop.

Content Creation & Collaboration

📌 Gathering stories, photos, and achievements from local Scout Groups to highlight the impact of Scouting in Birmingham.
📌 Working alongside other volunteers and the County Programme Team to promote Scouting activities and events.

Skills & Experience

🔹 Enthusiasm for social media, communications, and storytelling.
🔹 Ability to write clear and engaging posts and emails.
🔹 A creative eye for spotting great Scouting moments to share.
🔹 Strong organisational skills to manage updates and deadlines.
🔹 Ability to work independently while being part of a wider team.

No prior experience? No problem! We welcome volunteers who are keen to learn and develop new skills. Training and support will be provided.

Commitment & Time Required

This role is flexible and can fit around your availability. It does not require a weekly commitment but involves:
✔ Attending occasional Comms Team meetings (virtual or in-person).
✔ Regularly posting on social media and assisting with County emails.
✔ Supporting key events and campaigns throughout the year.
