Job Description: Squirrel Team Member
Role Title: Squirrel Team Member
Reporting to: Programme Team Leader
Team: Birmingham Scout County – Programme Team
Role Purpose
The Squirrel Team Member is a volunteer role within the County Programme Team, dedicated to supporting and developing the Squirrel Section across Birmingham Scout County. You will assist in creating and delivering high-quality, inclusive, and engaging programmes for young people aged 4-6, ensuring a positive and memorable Scouting experience for all involved.
Key Tasks
We are looking for a team of volunteers that can support us to:
- Support Quality Programmes for Squirrel Sections:
- Work with District Programme Teams to share resources and ideas for Squirrel Section activities.
- Assist in promoting new badges, activities, and initiatives tailored to Squirrel Scouts.
- Contribute to delivering the YouShape programme to give young people a voice in their Scouting experience.
- Encourage Top Awards and Achievements:
- Support the promotion of Top Awards (including Acorn Chief Scouts Award) and achievements within Squirrel Sections.
- Help provide guidance and resources for volunteers to support young people in reaching their potential.
- Support with the Acorn Squirrel celebrations ran by Birmingham County.
- Community Impact and Events:
- Assist Squirrel Sections in planning and delivering community impact projects.
- Support the organisation of county-wide Squirrel events, suitable to the age range. These may include both single activity events and nights away events.
- Ensure that events are ran safely and budgeted correctly. All events/activities must follow Policy, Organisation and Rules of Scouts.
- Collaboration and Networking:
- Take part in networking and sharing of best practices, knowledge and ideas with Squirrel Section Leaders across the County.
- Work closely with the County Programme Team to ensure consistency and inclusivity in programme delivery.
Skills and Experience
- Enthusiasm for working with young people and supporting their development.
- Good communication and collaboration skills to engage with both adults and young people.
- Ability to contribute as part of a team to achieve shared goals.
- Basic knowledge of Scouting principles (desirable but not essential).
- Commitment to promoting inclusivity and accessibility in Scouting activities.
Commitment
This role does not require regular weekly meetings but offers flexibility in scheduling. It includes attending some District meetings (as appropriate) and County Programme Team meetings.
The County aims to organise and support several events tailored for Squirrels throughout the year. While the size and duration of these events may vary, time will be required for planning, attending meetings, and running the events.
