The Big Idea

The County has received a number of generous donations that we want to use to make a difference to Scouting in Birmingham.

Thank you to all the Groups that have submitted applications – to date we have awarded around £22,800 in funding across a wide range of projects.

The Big Idea will focus support on projects that have a sustainable and ongoing benefit to the young people of Birmingham County Scouts. This will allow the donations to have the maximum impact on the overall Scouting experience we are all able to offer.

If you have any opportunities that would benefit from funding then this is just for you. We are inviting Leaders and Young People to identify opportunities to use the funding to make a difference across the County, Districts, Groups and Sections. Please only submit one application per Group for each closing date. If a grant is awarded you have six months to claim your grant and complete and return the end of grant form which will be sent to you when you hear you have been successful. Grants will be awarded between £100 and £1,500 so that our funds are maximised throughout the year. Grant applications will take at up to three months before the applicant is notified of the outcome of the grant award.

NB: If a Unit or Group have more than one years reserves in their bank account not ring fenced for designated projects you will be unable to apply for a Big Idea grant based on the charity commission rules and TSA guidelines where funds over and above one years fixed reserves should be used for the aims of the TSA and the benefit of the young people and not sitting in bank accounts.

Grants will not be paid towards any costs related to TSA rebranding. There will be separate funding available for this.

Your District Commissioner must be aware of your application before you submit it to the project team.

We are currently not accepting any Big Idea applications before face-to-face Scouting resumes. As soon as we can we will announce when the next round of funding will commence and the closing date for applications.
